The National Skill Training Institute for Women (NSTIW), Tura, organized its Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh (Skill Convocation Ceremony) for the 2024–2025 batch on Tuesday at the District Auditorium, Tura. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of women trainees and reinforced the importance of skill development as a driving force for empowerment, employability, and social change.

The programme was graced by Saleng A. Sangma, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Tura, as the Chief Guest. T. Ragulan, Regional Director, RDSDE Assam, attended as the Guest of Honour, along with Mary Liza, Assistant Deputy Commissioner, Tura, and other dignitaries, faculty members, and trainees.

Addressing the gathering, MP Saleng A. Sangma urged the graduates to view their success not merely through the certificates received but through the knowledge, wisdom, and determination acquired during their training. He called upon the newly skilled professionals to dedicate themselves to community service, contributing to the betterment of society by addressing pressing issues such as substance abuse and social inequality. “True achievement lies in uplifting others,” he emphasized, encouraging the trainees to be agents of transformation and positive change.

In his address, T. Ragulan outlined the vital role of NSTI(W) within the national skill development ecosystem. He noted that of the 33 National Skill Training Institutes across the country, 19 are exclusively dedicated to women, underscoring the Government’s commitment to fostering women-led growth. He further informed that NSTI(W) is expanding its training portfolio to include emerging sectors such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and 3D Manufacturing, thus preparing women to meet the evolving demands of a technology-driven economy.

He lauded NSTI(W), Tura, for its consistent efforts in empowering women through skilling, upskilling, and reskilling, thereby strengthening their role as contributors to national development.

Speaking on the occasion, Mary Liza, Assistant Deputy Commissioner, highlighted that skill development plays a crucial role in promoting confidence, independence, and financial literacy among women. She noted that vocational training empowers women to secure sustainable livelihoods and participate meaningfully in the socio-economic progress of the nation. She also commended the institute for offering quality training and opportunities that enhance employability and entrepreneurship among women.

The ceremony witnessed the felicitation of 110 trainees, with 30 receiving awards for outstanding performance in various trades including Dress Making, Cosmetology, Computer Operator & Programming Assistant, Fashion Design & Technology, and Secretarial Practice.

A special highlight of the event was the recognition of Bandita Devi Rabha, who secured the All-India Top Rank in Cosmetology under the ITI programme and was felicitated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister during the 4th National Skill Convocation held in New Delhi.

The programme concluded with the Hindi Divas Prize Distribution Ceremony, followed by a series of cultural performances, marking a fitting conclusion to the convocation celebration.
