AMPATI, August 19, 2026: South West Garo Hills District Police recovered 1.439 kg of suspected cannabis and detained one person during a Naka Checking Operation at Jhunjhuni Tri-Junction.

According to police a team from Kalaichar Police Patrol Post (PP) intercepted a suspicious individual during the checking and conducted a thorough search. The person was identified as Abdul Zaher 53, resident of Jhagarchar, Kakripara, Mankachar.

Police said the suspected cannabis was recovered from his possession. He was subsequently taken into custody, and necessary legal action is being initiated under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The South West Garo Hills District Police has reiterated its commitment to curbing drug trafficking and other illegal drug-related activities in the region.

It has also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and provide information to the nearest police station regarding any suspected drug-related activities, said Vikash Varma, IPS
