Tura, March 4, 2026: The 10th Death Anniversary of the former Lok Sabha Speaker (L) Purno Agitok Sangma was solemnly observed today at the P.A. Sangma Sports Complex, Tura, in the presence of family members, dignitaries, well-wishers, and members of the public.

Organised by the P.A. Sangma Foundation, the programme began with a Floral Tribute in honour of the late leader. A major highlight of the occasion was the formal inauguration and opening of the P.A. Sangma Museum, which has been made accessible to the public from today. The museum reflects the life, journey, and achievements of the late statesman and aims to inspire future generations.

The commemorative event was graced by Smt. Soradini K. Sangma and attended by several distinguished guests, including Thomas A. Sangma, Hon’ble Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, who attended as the Chief Guest, and Agatha K. Sangma, Hon’ble Former Minister and Treasurer of the P.A. Sangma Foundation.

In his address, Shri Thomas A. Sangma expressed that it was an honour and privilege to be part of the commemoration of one of the tallest leaders from the community. He stated that the opening of the museum stands as a tribute to a remarkable life that exemplified a positive mindset, humility, perseverance, confidence, and unwavering belief in oneself.

He highlighted that (L) Purno Agitok Sangma’s life journey demonstrated that a person, regardless of background or humble beginnings, can rise to the highest positions in the country. He recalled how the late leader showed that a tribal individual could aspire to occupy the highest constitutional office in the nation — the President of India — and noted that this dream has found resonance today with a tribal leader holding the highest office in the country.

Sharing his personal first impressions and experiences of his association with the late leader, the Speaker described them as deeply positive and inspiring. He encouraged the gathering, especially the youth, to imbibe the values exemplified by (L) Purno Agitok Sangma — maintaining a positive mindset, staying humble even while holding high office, and leading with integrity and conviction.

Speakers at the programme fondly remembered the late leader’s visionary leadership and immense contributions to Meghalaya and the nation. The observance concluded with a renewed commitment to uphold the ideals and principles he stood for.
