Tura, Mar 21,2025: The Congress Party in Tura assembled in the heinously destroyed Cenotaph and asked for forgiveness with folded hands, from the War Heroes and their families, whose 100 year old memorial was recklessly demolished by the Government of Meghalaya.
The saddest part is that the Pride of Garo War Heroes and thereby the Garos was insulted, injured and abandoned when the state has a Garo Chief Minister.
The Congress party has demanded the immediate removal of Marak from the Tura Municipal Administration and the DC Mr Jagdish from the DC responsibilities to demonstrate the seriousness of the insult made to the Garos.
The Party and the Tura MP Mr Saleng A. Sangma has offered unconditional support to the Mothers’ Union, Civil Society and NGOs to ensure that an honorable memorial should be made and to bring the government to accountability for this deep injury made on the people of Garo for commerical gains and vested interest.
Learning about this incident, the AICC Jt. Secretary In-Charge Meghalaya Adv. Mathew Anthony rushed to Tura to ask for forgiveness and expressed utter shock on the insult to the Garos.
Former Dy CM and Congress Working President Smt. Deborah C. Marak, Meghalaya Pradesh (MPYC) President Timjim Momin Youth Congress Meghalaya in Charge Madam Sarifa, former MLA Smt Ferline CA Sangma, Former MLA Brigady N. Marak, Congress leaders from Tura and followers joined together to pay respects and asking forgiveness.
