World consumer Rights day observed at Dadenggre
Tura, March 21, 2025: An Awareness program on World Consumer Rights Day with the theme “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles” was observed at Bhajamara Secondary School, West Garo Hills district on 21st March, 2025. The program was organized by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Supply), Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, West Garo Hills.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, the Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Tura Tangme Ch Marak emphasized on the theme and said that it reflects on the urgent need to make sustainable and healthy lifestyle choices more available, accessible and affordable for all consumers and also ensuring that these transitions uphold people’s basic rights. She also informed that the department works under two wings, that is the Enforcement wing and Analysis wing to safeguard the health and life of the consumers. She then encouraged the people to make a better choice instead of using chemical fertilizers in agricultural activities and to check for the F logo before purchasing food items and urged the public to spread this awareness to others also.
Further, the Superintendent of Supply, Dadenggre Sub-Division N D Marak while addressing the gathering informed about the importance of Consumer Rights, the right to safety, right to choose, right to complain, right to redressal, right to healthy environment and right to basic needs and urged everyone to exercise their rights and be a vigilant and responsible consumers in future.
Meanwhile, the Inspector of Supply Dadenggre Sub-Division, Jakjeep R Marak informed the gathering on the provisions of NFSA Act 2013 including the various functions of the department and mechanism through which the implementation of public distribution system is being carried out to provide better services to the beneficiaries. He also explained in detail about the AAY, PHH and NPHH schemes and mentioned the categories of people entitled for these schemes.
Further, the Sub-Inspector of Supply Dadenggre Sub-Division Salchra N Sangma stressed on the importance and necessity of e-KYC and linking of Aadhar card along with ration card, phone number and bank passbook to avail services and benefits from the public distribution system.
