Williamnagar, Sept 25, 2025: Together with the rest of the world, East Garo Hills Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department in collaboration with the Health Department, observed the World Rabies Day, 2025, with the theme, “Act now: you, me, community” at DRDA Hall-I, Williamnagar, on 25 September, 2025, where Nokmas, Sordars, village elders, senior citizens, students and officials from the Govt. line departments participated.
The chief guest of the occasion, Ripamchi N Sangma, Additional Deputy Commissioner, who spoke at length on rabies, informed the gathering that rabies is a viral disease which can be transmitted easily to human beings and which at the same time is preventable. She also said that the disease is still prevalent despite initiatives being taken by the concerned departments. Dwelling on the theme, the chief guest also urged the parents and elders to take steps to prevent rabies in their respective localities.
Dr. Cruzie Elmina N Sangma, District Medical and Health Officer, while delivering the key -note address, highlighted the dangers of rabies, its prevention and treatment. She also urged the gathering to get their pets vaccinated in order to prevent rabies and to keep their respective localities rabies free.
The others who spoke on the day included Dr. Ivyritha D Arengh, District Veterinary Officer, Dr. Otem Pertin, District Surveillance Officer, Dr. Ashish R Marak, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer and Dr. Mibandik Ch Marak, Senior Medical Health Officer.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. John Beril K Marak, Medical Superintendent, Williamnagar Civil Hospital.
