Tura, Oct 25, 2026:In a major organizational boost for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Garo Hills, Shri Ismail R. Marak formally joined the BJP on Saturday the 24th October, 2026 in the presence of BJP Meghalaya State In-charge Shri Kanad Purkayastha MP, State Co-in-charge Dr. Numal Momin, and State President Pa Rikman G. Momin.

A veteran of Meghalaya’s political landscape, Ismail R. Marak previously served as the Transport Minister. He was an MLA from the Rongram constituency now in the North Tura constituency in 2008. He also served as a Member of the District Council (MDC) from the Asanang constituency in 2015 under the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

Welcoming him into the party, senior leaders described his significant addition to the BJP’s growing strength in the region. In a further development, the central leadership has entrusted Ismail Marak with the responsibility of overseeing future party joiners, a role expected to accelerate
