Complaint against the ongoing Illegal rat hole mining and Export of coal to Bangladesh.
Baghmara, Jan 6,2025: In a serious case of illegal coal mining and export. It has come to notice that coal is being mined in under West Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, but fake invoices are being used to show that the coal was brought from Nagaland and currently lying at the designated coal depot at Rongsa A·we, South Garo Hills District, to be exported to Bangladesh through Gasuapara Land Custom Station (LCS) under South Garo Hills, Meghalaya to Justice Brojendra Prasad Katakey on 28th December, 2024.
In this regard the Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills has issued a transportation order to Shri Katman T Sangma for 5,000 Matric Ton (MT) on 20th December 2024.
That the coal which is said to be brought from the Nagaland is freshly mined coal from Goreng village under West Khasi Hills District and lying at Rongsa A·we coal depot 5000 MT and exist physical quantity of only 300 to 400 MT for which the Deputy Commisoner of South Garo Hills has issued order for 5000 MT without any cross check entry of such coal from the state of Nagaland from the concern departments of Meghalaya.
It is strong objection and complaint of the Rongsa A·we coal depot and conduct a surprise visit to the Rongsa A·we coal depot under South Garo Hills District, Meghalaya for the physical verification without any delay, urged Krishan Kumar.
The complaint filed by Shri Rajen Ch. Sangma resident of Era A·ning Nongal Bibra, South Garo Hills and Shri Mingran T. Sangma resident of Samgong, Williamnagar, East Garo Hills Disrtict Meghalaya, were they have strongly lodge complaints opposing illegal rat hole mining in South Garo Hills & West Khasi Hills, Districts.
“We can understand that illegal mining is taking place in South Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills, districts” added Kumar.
This illegal activity is not only causing significant revenue loss to the both State and Central Government, but also harming the environment and local communities. So the lordship to take immediate action against Shri Katman T Sangma and initiate an through investigation into the matter and also to revoke the transportation order issued by the Deputy Commisoner of South Garo Hills.

In this regard immediate investigate the matter and conduct a thorough investigation into the illegal coal mining and export using fake invoices. And also take action against perpetrators and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions and take necessary legal action against them.
To prevent future instances and take steps to prevent such illegal tax evasion activities from happening in the future. “I hope will take immediate action on this matter” added Kumar.
