Tura, March 20, 2026:
World Oral Health Day was observed at Asanangre Playground today with a focus on promoting awareness on proper oral hygiene practices among children and the community.

The program was organised by Asanang Primary Health Centre (PHC) under the National Oral Health Programme (NOHP). Students and staff from Asanangre Government Upper Primary School, Asanangre Government Lower Primary School, Asanangre English School, along with officials from Rongram Block Office and staff of Asanang PHC, actively participated in the event.

Smti. Cherime Winchi R. Sangma, Block Development Officer (BDO), Rongram C&RD Block, attended the program as the Chief Guest, while Galchi K. Sangma, Medical & Health Officer, In-Charge, Asanangre, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

A key highlight of the program was the General Toothbrushing Demonstration conducted by Dr. Kalseng D. Momin, Dental Surgeon, Asanang PHC. During the session, children were taught the correct techniques of brushing teeth to maintain good oral hygiene.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Kalseng D. Momin stated that this year’s observance focused on strengthening awareness about the basics of oral care. He emphasised that maintaining proper oral hygiene is essential, as “a healthy mouth leads to a healthy life.”

He further informed that brushing teeth regularly, at least twice a day and in the correct manner, can prevent nearly 90–95 percent of oral health problems. The main objective of the program, he added, was to educate children, parents, and the general public on proper brushing techniques, as many are still unaware of the correct methods.

The program concluded with active participation from the students in the mass toothbrushing activity, reinforcing the importance of daily oral care practices.
