Tura, April 11,2025: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Thomas A. Sangma, today inaugurated the Boys’ Hostel of Durama Degree College on Friday at Rongkhon Me’ggonggre in the outskirts of Tura.
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker while expressing his immense joy for getting the opportunity to do the honor of inaugurating it, said that the getting a Boys’ Hostel for a college marks a significant milestone in academic excellence and holistic development in the progress of the college. He also applauded all those who were involved in making this college a reality and remarks that the hostel is like ‘Nokpante’ (Garo Traditional Bachelor’s Dormitory), where the youths learn the arts and skills of making various traditional crafts like baskets etc. also learns the various aspects of life besides making lasting memories and friendships with fellow young inmates before they step into adulthood.
He also expressed the hope that the hostel would be the cornerstone of learning and exchanging ideas among the youths. The Speaker said that the college’s demands for upgradation, funds for development of Library and Auditorium would be looked into.
