Tura, September 21st 2025: In view of the reported announcement of night road blockade by conglomerates of NGOs through various social media platforms, the District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), has promulgated an order to prevent any breach of peace and to ensure public safety in the district.
The order, which comes into effect immediately, restricts unlawful assembly of five or more persons, carrying of weapons, and any activity that may disturb public tranquility. The measure has been taken in view of the prevailing situation that could potentially disrupt law and order if not addressed in time.
Authorities have clarified that the restrictions will not apply to government officials on duty, law enforcement agencies, or individuals engaged in emergency services. The administration has appealed to citizens to extend their cooperation and abide by the directives in the larger interest of peace and security.
The prohibitory order will remain in force until further notice, and strict action will be taken against violators under the relevant provisions of law.
For public awareness, residents are urged to stay informed through official notifications and avoid spreading rumours or misinformation.
