Resubelpara, Jan 26, 2026: The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at Resubelpara in North Garo Hills today.
The State Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE), Soil & Water Conservation, Shri Marcuise N. Marak, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and unfurled the National Flag, followed by the ceremonial Rashtrya Salute. He was accompanied by Kharkutta MLA, Shri Rupert Momin.
In his ceremonial address, Shri Marcuise N. Marak paid rich tributes to the valiant freedom fighters of the Nation including Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and others who laid the foundation of the Republic. He also honoured the sacrifices of the State freedom heroes U Kiang Nangbah, U Tirot Singh, and Pa Togan Nengminja, along with the State and Central defence and security forces who continue to safeguard the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
Highlighting the developmental initiatives undertaken by the Government, the Minister spoke on various departmental flagship programmes and ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating socio-economic progress in Meghalaya.
Emphasising the vision of the Government to make Meghalaya one of India’s top 10 performing States by 2032, he sought cooperation from all citizens and stakeholders. He also appealed for collective responsibility in promoting cleanliness noting that a clean environment plays a significant role in the overall growth of both the State and the Nation.
The ceremonial Republic Day Parade, featuring 11 marching contingents, was commanded by Shri Wallamsuk S. Laloo, Dy. SP, MPS with SI Sengwat R. Marak, MLP as the second Parade Commander.
In the competitive events, the Best Parade Contingent award was secured by NCC Mendipathar College, while the Best Tableau Presentation was awarded to the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Resubelpara, showcasing developmental themes of rural progress and community participation.
As part of the celebration, the district also recognised outstanding service of Government officers and employees. The Best Nodal Officer Recognition Award was conferred on Dr. Rezia K. Sangma, Sr. M&HO and District Immunization Officer, and Dr. Arfina M. Sangma, Sr. M&HO and District Nodal Officer in-charge CPHC. Best Employee Recognition Awards were also presented to deserving staff from various departments for their dedicated service to the district administration.
