Shillong, Feb 18, 2026: The third day of the Budget Session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Ministers tabled key reports and introduced important bills.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, in-charge of Personnel & Administrative Reforms, laid the Report of the Expert Committee on the State Reservation Policy (SRP).

Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui laid the Park University Meghalaya Ordinance, 2025 and introduced the Park University Meghalaya Bill, 2026.

Legal Metrology Minister Sanbor Shullai tabled the Meghalaya Legal Metrology (MLM) Enforcement, (Amendment) Rules, 2024.

Taxation Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh introduced the Meghalaya Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, in charge of Home (Police), introduced the Meghalaya Police (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The amendment seeks to modify Section 6 of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010 to strengthen administrative effectiveness and ensure continuity in leadership of the State Police.

The Statement of objects and Reasons noted that the move would improve coordination and address the limited availability of senior IPS officers in the Assam–Meghalaya Joint Cadre, adding that no eligible officer from the Meghalaya segment may be available for empanelment as DGP over the next ten years.
