Former Chief Minister Salseng C Marak accorded state funeral, mortal remains laid to rest.
Resubelpara, August 17, 2024: Former Chief Minister Salseng C Marak (83) who after a prolonged age old ailments breathed his last on Friday was accorded a full state honour at the Mini Stadium, Resubelpara where his mortal remains laid to rest at Gajingpara cemetery, Resubelpara on August 17, 2024.
State funeral was accorded to Salseng C Marak, rendering of gun salutes by riflemen and floral tributes was paid by various elected dignitaries of the state.
The veteran congress leader had served the state in various capacities from a humble school teacher, then headmaster and even to becoming the 6th chief minister of Meghalaya from 1993 – 1998.
Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma attending the ceremonial funeral expressed his condolences to the family and to all those whose lives were impacted by (L) Salseng C Marak.
“His demise has left a deep void in our state and we mourn the loss of such influential leader but let his contributions as a legislator in bringing significant impact on the state’s political history be remembered”, said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
He has demonstrated unwavering commitment in shaping the political scenario of the state even during times of uncertainty and let his dedication to address the needs of the people serves as an inspiration for all of us and cherish his memory for generations to come, added Conrad Sangma.
Bidding final farewell to the departed soul, Conrad Sangma said “At the end he will be remembered as an understanding leader, a loving husband and father and above all a good human being”.
The ceremonial funeral was attended by various dignitaries, government bureaucrats, officials, people from across Garo Hills and the State.
Series of condolences messages were poured in by various leaders.
Among others who attended the funeral service were Tura MP Saleng Sangma, Speaker Thomas Sangma, Deputy Speaker Thimothy D Shira, Mendipathar MLA Marthon Sangma, Education Minister Rakkam Sangma, PHE Minster Marcuise Marak, Minister I/C C&RD, Power & Taxation Minister A T Mondal, Songsak MLA and former Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul M.Sangma.
