District Coordination Committee Meeting on Flood Preparedness held
Tura, May 7, 2025: The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Vibhor Agarwal today conducted the District Coordination Committee Meeting on Flood Preparedness for South West Monsoon 2025 at Circuit House, Tura. The Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills, Abraham T Sangma, Superintendent of Police, Incharge Traffic, Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Aditya Verma, Sub-Divisional Officer, Dalu Civil Sub-Division, S Ch Sangma, Block Development Officers, Heads of Departments of the District were among others present during the meeting.
Initiating the discussion, the Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal said that floods and landslides are regular events that occur every year during monsoon and that every district should be prepared to tackle if a situation arises and at the same time to improve the facilities provided to the people. Each department has a different role during this situation and therefore, he took every minute details of each department and the resources available within the department. He also directed the concerned departments to update their resources and stock essential supplies as and when required.
The Project Director, DRDA and CEO, Tura Municipal Board Jude R T Sangma presented the power point presentation on the preparedness, list of vulnerable areas in the district notified by Tura Municipal Board, including comprehensive planning response and recovery measures, the establishment of Emergency Operation centres, disaster risk management programs in the district and involvement of various stakeholders and community in relief and rescue efforts.
The vulnerable areas frequently affected by calamities in Tura Urban area are Modynagar, Hawakhana, Deran Gittim, Kamipara, Rishipara, Balsri Ading, Upper Chandmari, Akonggre, Chitoktak, Akimbri, Dobasipara, Sillanggre, Reserve Gittim , Nikrang Ading, Alotgre, Ringrey Gittim, Boldak Ading, Dobakkol, Dharamsala, Upper Babupara, Gongadamal, etc.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police, Abraham T Sangma informed that 112 is the Police Control Room Emergency Number and is reachable to the nearest police station from the place of call. The Toll Free number of MePDCL is1912.
Further, the Deputy Commissioner has directed all the Sub-Divisional Officers and Block Development Officers to coordinate with concerned officers of their jurisdiction in order to act promptly when a situation arises. He further urged all district officers to take disaster related matters seriously and give priority to disaster response activities in the district.
