ASPF and other NGOs organises public meeting in Rongrenggre field to demanding Winter Capital
Tura, April 6,2025:The Meeting was convened at Rongrenggre, playground in Williamnagar, on 5 April, 2025, by All NGOs in collaboration with Nokma Association of East Garo Hills.
The meeting was chaired by Ronald Bryan A. Sangma, Adviser of the A·chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) Eastern Zone, Williamnagar. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Birash Ch. Sangma, Chief Organizing Secretary of ASPF, Eastern Zone, Williamnagar.
The meeting together several organizations, including A·chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF), Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC), Garo Students Union (GSU), Nokma Association of East Garo Hills, A·chik Progressive Approach (APA), Mothers Union, Williamnagar, All India Garo Union (AIGU), and Garo Hills Enlightenment Society (GES). The primary agenda was to discuss regarding the recently Govt’s formation of a committee to examine the establishment of Winter Capital in Tura, and expressed their determination to remain prepared and steadfast until this goal is achieved.

Marak, President of Mothers’ Union Williamnagar; Chibasal R. Marak, Lecturer at Loyola College, Roger D. Shira, President of APA, Slang Goera Marak Vice President of GES, Duke Momin, Senior Citizen of Williamnagar and Alden Marak, President of Nokma Association, Williamnagar.
The President of Nokma Association Williamnagar Alden Marak, emphasized that the fight for the Winter Capital would be pursued with love and unity, free from hatred or discrimination, as chanted “Nokmas Want,” to which the Nokmas responded in unison, “Winter Capital”.
Chibasal Marak, one youth from Williamnagar and a lecturer at Loyola College, asserted that the challenges faced by the youth of Garo Hills in competing with their counterparts in other regions of the state are not attributable to a lack of ambition or educational commitment. Rather, these challenges stem from limited opportunities and inadequate resources, that the establishment of Winter Capital in Tura would provide the essential opportunities and facilities necessary for development, he posited.
Adv. Bernita Marak urged all the participants to remain mentally and physically prepared, noting that the government has recently formed a Committee to Examine the establishing of Winter Capital in Tura.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Slang Goera, Vice President of GES.
