Williamnagar, Feb 27, 2025:The Garo Organization “A·chik Progressive Approach (APA)” along with one Advocates Joshua Ch. Marak from Williamnagar Bar, today submitted the Proposed Amendment to the Rule 8 (Qualification for Membership to be elected for Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC)) and Rule 128 (Qualification for Electors to vote for the election of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC)) of Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous District Council Rules, 1951, to Albinush R. Marak, Chief Executive Member (CEM) and to Nikman Ch. Marak, Deputy Chief Executive Member (Dy.CEM) of GHADC to amend the long outdated existing rules during the recent coming Budget Session of the GHADC.

During the submission, the CEM and Dy. CEM have responded in a very positive way and both leaders of GHADC have given us assurance that it may not possible to amend during the Budget Session, but they will definitely try their best to call special session regarding this and to amend proposed amendment at the earliest. “The Budget Session of the GHADC will be starting from the 19th March 2025”, said CEM.

But we still urge the present EC of GHADC to amend our proposed amendment, during this Budget Session of the GHADC for the sake of interest of indigenous Garo people of the Garo Hills, said APA.
