The A·chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK), was held 7th public awareness campaign at Rongara, South Garo Hills for establishment of Winter Capital in Tura on 29 April, 2025.

The awareness Campaign, for the Winter Capital Movement, with the people of Rongara, South Garo Hills, expressing firm commitment to the cause and reaffirming collective identity as part of the larger A’chik Community.

The campaign, organized by the ACHIK, to show widespread participation from local residents, youth organizations, elders and traditional leaders. The event was inspiring addressed by Macklawrence M. Sangma, President of ACHIK, who delivered powerful message emphasizing the importance of unity among the A’chik people.

“This movement is recognition, justice and the rightful of the A’chik people in the political and developmental landscape of Meghalaya,” said Sangma. .

“Our strength is unity, and today Rongara has shown the entire Garo Hills, what unity looks like”, added Sangma.

The speakers emphasized that the significance of decentralizing governance to ensure equal development across the regions of the state. Locals expressed that the establishment of Winter Capital in Garo Hills, would not only a symbolic step toward inclusion, but also a practical necessity to address long-standing infrastructural and administrative neglect, said ACHIK.

Demonstrating their commitment, the residents pledged their support for the movement through the community resolutions, cultural performances, and a solidarity march through the heart of Rongara. Young volunteers mobilized the crowd with chants of “Winter Capital for Garo Hills” and distributed informational pamphlets highlighting the movement’s vision and goals, said President of ACHIK.

The campaign is the latest in a series of grassroots mobilizations spearheaded by ACHIK, as the organization continues to take the message to every corner of Garo Hills, with the movement gathers momentum, drawing strength from the unyielding spirit of the A’chik people.

The sun set over Rongara, one message rang clear, the people are united, the vision is strong and the Winter Capital Movement is no longer a distant dream, it is a people’s call for justice, added ACHIK.
