10 MT of black pepper from SWGH shipped to Mumbai

Ampati, July 4, 2025: In a major achievement by the farmers of South West Garo Hills district, 10 metric tons of locally produced black pepper was shipped to Mumbai from Chapahati Prime Hub by Kerupara and Dingampara Integrated Village Cooperative Societies (IVCS) under Zikzak block on Thursday evening.

With the support of M-LAMP, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBMA), Kerupara IVCS and Dingampara IVCS, through their dedicated effort, collected 10 MT of black pepper from their farmers and dispatched the same to Sundardas Ratansey Spice Pvt Ltd, Mumbai.

This is the second shipment of locally produced black pepper from the district, the first being in 2023, when Dimiligre IVCS Ltd. under Zikzak block dispatched about 11 tons of black pepper to Mumbai through concerted efforts of the IVCS members, farmers and MBMA.

For the shipment, out of the total 10 tons, Kerupara IVCS collected 6600 kg of black pepper @ Rs.640/- per kg, while Dingampara IVCS collected 3400 kg at lower rate of Rs 610/- per kg due to lower quality of their product as per quality assessment.

Thursday’s shipment of black pepper was made possible through the coordinated efforts of Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak, who facilitated and enabled the smooth operation of the shipment; Am’beng Farmers & Producers Association of South West Garo Hills, who played the pivotal role of mobilizing the farmers and Marketing Executive, MBMA, Bravantyo K Marak, who was responsible for consistently connecting with the buyers.

According to DPM, MBMA, Grikseng Ch.Marak, Satish Dharamsey Pallicha and Kalind Satish Pallicha, Directors of Sundardas Ratansey Spice Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, have confirmed that black pepper of South West Garo Hills would be taken by spice Everest Masala & Everest Food Products, a well known manufacturer, distributor and exporter of ground spices under the brand* name Everest.
