Trophy Showcase and Roadshow 134th Edition of the Durand Cup 2025
Tura, July 12: The trophy showcase and Roadshow of the 134th edition of the Durand Cup was held in Tura today. The event was organised by the Indian Armed Forces supported by the Government of Meghalaya.
The trophy road show was flagged off from P.A. Sangma Stadium, Dakopgre, Tura and followed the designated route via Nazing Bazar, Araimile, Tetengkol, Hawakhana, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, SP Office finally culminating at Tura Super Market where a small function was held to welcome the arrival of this prestigious trophy in Tura.
Speaking at the function, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Vibhor Aggarwal, said that the Durand Cup is considered to be the oldest tournament in the history of Asia with the legacy of the Cup dating back to the British era.
‘Over the past year Meghalaya has had the privilege of hosting some of the matches of this prestigious tournament and this showcases the capability and maturity of the sports infrastructure of our State to handle events of this quality and scale. Events like this are a great boost to the image of the State in the field of sports especially in the run up to the National Games which Meghalaya will be hosting in 2027’, he added.
In today’s event the dignitaries also distributed tickets to some of the matches in the upcoming tournament. A signature campaign was also held to wish Rangdajied United FC, Northeast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC, which will be competing in the 134th edition of the Durand Cup.
