The Cabinet decides under the Chairmanship of Conrad K Sangma
Shillong, Feb 27,2025:The Cabinet has decided on Wednesday to amend the Mandatory Medical Service policy for Medical Students for UG and PG, pursuing academic curriculum under the state government sponsorship/state quota.
Through the Policy, doctors working for non-profit organizations and central institutions in the state will be exempted from mandatory service in government hospitals.
Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Urban Parking Policy 2025. This basically is being done as part of the comprehensive mobility plan and entails a comprehensive parking policy for unorganised on street parking in urban areas.
Chief Minister informed that with the absence of a mechanism to take fees for vehicles that are parked on the road poses great challenge with growing urbanisation and traffic concerns also voiced by various local Dorbar and localities.
Conrad Sangma said that the Government will work with the community for proper implementation of the parking reforms to make urban areas more organised.
Cabinet approved the Amendment to the Meghalaya Police Act which concerns the appointment of the DGP of the State Police in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court.
Cabinet approved the Meghalaya Registration of Birth and Death Amendment Rules. This is being done in line with the provisions from the central government and will streamline the process of registration to eliminate inconsistencies in name, dates and addresses.
Cabinet today approved various Ordinances that will be presented as Bills in the upcoming Budget Session of the State Assembly:
- Meghalaya State Investment Promotion and Facilitation (Amendment) Bill 2025.
- Amendment to the Meghalaya Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2006.
- Contingency Fund of Meghalaya(Amendment) Ordinance 2025.
- Meghalaya Goods and Service Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
Cabinet has approved the amendment of the Meghalaya Medical Attendance Rules 2021 concerning the medical reimbursement to government employees.
The amendment will streamline the referral process for specialized treatments outside Govt medical institutions, enhance transparency in empanelment procedures, revise reimbursement based on disease classification, and establish a robust mechanism for medical reimbursement claims
Cabinet has approved the Re-designation of the Director of Health Services (Research) to the DHS Medical Education and Research.
In light of the establishment of new medical and nursing colleges, along with other research institutions in the state, it has become imperative to realign the organizational structure of the Health Department.
The proposed re-designation aims to enhance academic oversight, streamline clinical management, and strengthen the administrative framework necessary to support the expansion of medical education and specialized healthcare services.
Cabinet approved the Assembly Resolution for Repeal of “the Employment of Manual Scavengers & Construction of dry Latrines (Prohibition) Act, 1993”.
