Social Activist objects Mandatory Aadhaar Requirement for APAAR Registration.

Baghmara, Mar 5,2025: South Garo Hills Social Activist Greneth M.Sangma has written complaint to the District School Education Officer (DSEO) and District Mission Coordinator (DMC), SSA South Garo Hills, on Wednesday regarding the mandatory requirement of Aadhaar for APAAR Registration.

Greneth Sangma strongly objected to the mandatory requirement of Aadhaar for APAAR Registration, which is circulated by the DSEO, South Garo Hills, on 4th March, 2025.

Social Activist mentioned that the Supreme Court has ruled that the Aadhaar is not mandatory for educational purposes. Moreover, Meghalaya is a Sixth Schedule State is exempted from the Aadhaar requirement. “I urged to rectify the circular immediately and make the necessary amendments to exclude Aadhaar as a mandatory requirement for the APAAR Registration”.

Furthermore, it is come to notice that Meghalaya has implemented the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which ensures free and compulsory education to all children. The mandatory requirement of Aadhaar for APAAR Registration may deny certain students of their right to education, which is unconstitutional, said Sangma.

Sangma urged the DSEO and District Mission Coordinator SSA, South Garo Hills to look into the matter and do the needful at the earliest, regarding this issue. “I have been consistently writing letters against the mandatory requirement of Aadhaar cards and I hope you will take immediate steps for the benefit of the aspiring students, who could not prepare Aadhaar card due to unavoidable circumstances. In this regard is highly anticipated and If there is no reasonable reply in this matter I shall be compelled to take legal initiative as per aw for the purpose of aspiring and distressed students” added Sangma.
