Sensitization on BIS Standards organized at Tura

Tura, February 11, 2025: Sensitization and Awareness program on Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) was organized at DRDA Conference Hall, Tura on 11th February, 2025 for various departments and Institutions in West Garo Hills district as per the decision taken during the 2nd Meghalaya State level Committee Meeting.

Speaking during the sensitization program, Ashutosh Rai Scientist C BIS, Guwahati highlighted the objectives and working module of BIS stating that the BIS is the National Standards Body of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs which formulates the standards and specific guidelines for products to ensure quality, safety and consumer protection through standardization, certification and awareness initiative. Mentioning that BIS publishes standards on various products such as cement, pavers block, helmets, etc, he said that the government departments can procure BIS certified goods for their respective departments. He also mentioned about the benefits of certification stating that the BIS assures the quality, reliability and safety of the product to the customers.

Meanwhile, Jishnu Das, SPO, BIS informed the gathering about the Introduction to BIS activities and Promoting Quality and Standardization Awareness in Educational Institutions.

Joint Director, FCS & CA, Tura, N M Marak were among others who spoke during the program while Superintendent, FCS & CA, Tura, J K Marak, representatives from various Departments, stakeholders, etc attended the sensitization program.
