Rongjeng, April 18, 2025: The President of Garo Hills Youth Solidarity (GHYS) Rongjeng Unit’ Chegaail N.Marak condemned against the Contractor of Tesokgittim JJM project for his poor construction. The Project has been reportedly completed, but 20% of the households are left without tap connection. The Villagers are unaware about it, after complaining to the department and received no response from the Authority. Further, they are expressing their deep disappointment and concern, regarding the poor work of the contractor.

Despite, the project’s importance in providing clean drinking water to the community, the work executed by the contractor falls short of expectations, said Chegaail Marak.

The contractor put up the completion sign board in front of the old water tank constructed by the PHE department prior to the commencement of the JJM project in the country and no villager including Village and Water Sanitation Committee (VWSC) have knowledge about the completion of the JJM in the village and about the completion signboard put up by the contractor.

However, the fact is that present JJM water tank is too small which was no capacity to distribute water for the households of the village has presently and too small size pipes are connected to the households.

“We are closely following up the contractor if remaining households are not connected with the tap and pipelines to their courtyards. We are remaining as a watch dog, if the contractor does not work out till water runs to every household smoothly if they keep it for long without work. We are waiting for the completion of the project, if fail to accomplish the guidelines given for the implementation of JJM by the Central Government. Then we shall have no other alternatives, but to take shelter of law in the competent Court of Law against non-compliance of the JJM implementation guidelines by the contractor or by the department” added Marak. .
