GH NGOs demands to extend last date of submission of the suggestions for various reforms MPSC
Tura, Jan 31, 2025:The Combined NGOs like FKJGP, ADE, AYWO, FAF from West Garo Hills, Tura submitted a Memorandum today to the Chief Minister Conrad K.Sangma Government of Meghalay though the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, to extend the last date of submission of the suggestions for various reforms to the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), Shillong.
The NGOs mentioned that the public notice was issued vide MIPR No. 1682 Dated 22/1/25 with regards to the Notification No. PER (AR)126/2023/Pt/1 dated 21.11.2024, to Constitute a State Level Committee (SLC) to look into the various reforms in the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), which has stirred up confusion and destitution among the psyche of the citizens and Civil Society Organisations of the Garo Hills Region.
On the evening of the 30th January 2025, mentioned Public Notice started surfacing in Social Media and Whatsapp Groups, which has led to speculations by many as to why the public notice was made public at the eleventh hour, as the last date of receiving any suggestions with regards to the reforms on MPSC was slated for the 30th January 2025 and that though the Civil Society Organisations and the General Public wants to share their suggestions on the matter, the period of time to do the same has lapsed said NGOs.
“We cannot ascertain whether the afore mentioned public notice was duly published in news channels, as in the age of internet people hardly read, Print Media anymore and also our opinion that an intimation letter should be addressed to the Civil Society Organisations, if suggestions where truly desired from their end too, was done in crucial issues which affects the State Policies as in the case of Expert Level Committee (ELC) on Reservation Policy. Whereby, the Civil Society Organisations where intimated both via mail and written letters from the Deputy Commissioners Office, both of which are lacking in this matter” added NGOs.
The people and the Civil Society Organisations of Garo Hills Region in particular are dissatisfied by the current functioning of the MPSC and duly feel that certain reforms should be made with regards to the same and appreciate the Government’s endeavour to rectify the same in a positive manner.
However, as explained earlier the people of Garo Hills Region, may miss out on the chance to suggest any reforms to the functioning of the MPSC, if the last date of submission for the reforms of MPSC is not extended and thus, “We hereby request your office to extend the submission of time for suggestions in a positive gesture towards the people of Garo Hills in Particular and the people of the State in General” said Pritam Arengh President of FKJGP Garo Hills, Zone.
