Food Safety Training and Certification held at Tura

Tura, May 2, 2025: As part of the Country-wide Training programme for food handlers across the State, the FSSAI (Food Safety & Standards Authority of India) is conducting FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification) Training for three days at Prime Hub Conference Hall, Food Craft Institute Building, Nazing Bazaar, Tura. The training was organized by the Commissionerate of Food Safety, Meghalaya, Shillong in collaboration with the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, West Garo Hills Tura.

The Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Tangme Ch Marak informed that the purpose of the training programme is to train food handlers to become Food Safety Supervisors in their respective food establishments. The training course consists of basic manufacturing and catering regarding good manufacturing practices and all basic sanitary and hygiene requirements required by FSSAI.

She further mentioned that the training programme in Garo Hills region commenced from North Garo Hills covering Bajengdoba, Adokgre and Resubelpara, also covering Ampati and Garobadha in South West Garo Hills District held earlier for four days in each district while the training programme for West Garo Hills District started from 30th April to 3rd May, 2025 for General Manufacturing comprising of bakeries, sweet shops, caterers, including fast food establishments, tea stalls and restaurants. The training will also be organised for Mid-Day Meal Incharge (MDM) for schools in Dadenggre on 3rd May, 2025. The training programme would also be held in East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills from 5th May to 10th May, 2025, she stated. The same training is also being simultaneously held in Khasi and Jaintia Hills District.

The Technical Session on Food Safety and Training Certification was explained in detail by Binu K N who is an empanelled FSSAI Trainer from Kerala and Training Partner Thiwas International Private Ltd. He emphasized on the importance of FSSAI and the role it plays in guiding the food establishments to provide good quality food to their customers. He also cautioned the owners of eateries in the district to avoid mixing harmful chemical colours, preservatives, etc in food and urged them to provide good quality food only.

Food Safety Officers of West Garo Hills S S Marak, North Garo Hills Tengkam T Sangma and South West Garo Hills Junean Norombi Ch Marak were among others who attended the training programme.
