East Garo Hills observes International Day against Drugs Abuse
Williamnagar, June 27,2025: Together with the rest of the world East Garo Hills also observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Williamnagar at Rongrenggre Govt. Higher Secondary School Playground on 26 June where the Deputy Commissioner, RP Marak was the chief guest.
The deputy commissioner, while speaking at length about the health impacts of drug abuse, urged the youth of the region to embrace healthy and meaningful life-style and to involve in sports and other activities to stay away from drugs and other such addictive substances. He also asked the parents to cooperate with the law enforcing agencies to prevent the entry of drugs and other addictive substances into the district.
The Superintendent of Police, Stephen A Rynjah, while delivering the welcome address informed the gathering that the district, so far, has less problem in terms of drug addiction comparing to other districts in the state.
On the day, Goera T Sangma, SI, Traffic in-charge, delivered a speech on drug abuse and illicit trafficking and urged the youth and their parents to help the police and other law enforcing agencies to prevent the entry of drugs and other addictive substances into the district.
As part of the observation of the day, with an aim to create more awareness of the significant challenges posed by illicit drugs in our society, the office of the Superintendent of Police, Williamnagar, in collaboration with the District Sports Officer, organized a 10 Km. run for both the male and female. This initiative saw enthusiastic participation from both men and women thereby bringing together individuals from all walks of life to promote solidarity against drugs abuse.
