District Level Inter School Games 2025 concluded
Tura, May 31, 2025: The Meghalaya Minister for Soil and Water Conservation, Marcuise N Marak today graced the concluding function of First ever District Level School Games 2025 as Chief Guest at Don Bosco College, Tura which started from 29th May 2025.
Addressing the gathering during the concluding function of District Level School Games, Marcuise Marak stated that the sporting spirits and level of competition of the athletes in the region has changed drastically after 5th Meghalaya Games was organized in the district last year.
Mentioning the initiatives of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad K Sangma, he said that there is future in sports as a career, and informed that the cabinet has approved and passed to provide jobs for those athletes who represent the State in National level and beyond and win medals for the State. Further, citing the examples of Mary Kom who represented the North East region and India during Olympic Games and National games, he urged the athletes to pursue a career in sports and shine in the sports arena and earn accolades for themselves as well as for the state and nation.
Further, while the necessary infrastructure for the development of sports, education and other activities are being implemented in the region, he also urged everyone to preserve and protect the surrounding environment and water bodies for the future generation in view of the pattern of climate change in the region due to global warming, he added.
Meanwhile, the District Sports Officer, Tura Saljagring M Marak highlighted that the District Level Inter School Games is being organized to encourage sports and games in the district as well as to train and showcase their hidden talents. He further mentioned that more than 500 students have participated in disciplines namely Badminton, Basketball, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and Volleyball and expressed hope that more disciplines would be added in future.
The Chief Guest and other dignitaries distributed the medals and certificates to the winners of various competitions during the function.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nippon Hajong, Chairman, Tura Municipal Board, J D Sangma, Teacher incharge of the schools, Representatives of different Sports Associations, participants attended the function.
