Boulder export from Bhutan to Bangladesh damages Garo Hills roads
Tura, Dec 15, 2024:According to West Garo Hills DC, huge violation of overloaded boulder have been exported every night, it allowed only three (3) axle trucks were permitted for boulder export from Bhutan, but illegally overloaded five (5) axle trucks and damaged the good road conditions of Garo Hills.
As per the report, the trucks from Bhutan carrying boulders are entering from Paikan to Tura and onwards to Dalu border town where the boulders are exported to Bangladesh.
Only 3 axle trucks are permitted, but here all trucks are 5 axle. So, the heavy load damaging roads and there is a massive extortion by police all across the rout informed DC.
Earlier Tura to Paikan was NH-51, but now it is renamed as NH-217.
Every night over 200 overloaded boulders trucks from Bhutan are coming.The original route was from Agia in Assam – Medhipara- Phulbari- Tikrikilla.
Earlier, all Bhutan boulder trucks go from Agia-Medhipara-Phulbari-Tikrikilla AMPT road to Garobadha -Betasing- Ampati and Mahendeaganj. From Mahendraganj it goes to Purakhasia and Dalu.
According to Ministry of road and surface Transport only 3 axle trucks are allowed in Hill areas where soil is weak. In Garo Hills 5 axle is not allowed.
Now boulder trucks are diverted from Paikan to Tura to Dalu which is not allowed and already damaged the road at Aguragre in Asanang area. But nobody is checking to this violation .
