ASPF, FIR against BAC Infratech Pvt. Ltd. for non-functional water supply of JJM project in Balapara Village
Garobadha, April 8, 2025: The A·chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) Garobadha Regional Unit, on behalf of the residents of Balapara Village, South West Garo Hills, filed First Information Report (FIR) against the BAC Infratech Pvt. Ltd. for the gross negligence and failure to ensure the functional implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project in the said village.
The JJM project was provided clean and safe drinking water to every rural household. While the pipeline has been connected, the water supply has never been made operational, rendering the entire project ineffective, said Sanju T.Sangma President of ASPF Garobadha Regional Unit.
Despite multiple complaints from the villagers, but no corrective action has been taken to address the issue. The villagers have been forced to struggle for water for 3 to 4 years, as the company has abandoned its responsibility after partial completion. The lack of functional water supply continues to cause severe hardship, especially during the dry season (March-May), when water scarcity is at its peak, added Sangma.
Sangma stressed that the Criminal Negligence Failure to ensure the functional operation of the JJM project, despite the pipeline being connected. Breach of Public Welfare Commitment Abandoning the project after partial work, depriving villagers of clean drinking water.
Misused of Government Funds Accepting contract without delivering the promised services. Public Forcing the community to rely on unsafe water sources, leading to potential health hazards. Failure to Address Grievances Repeatedly ignoring complaints and requests from the affected villagers.
ASPF demands for Legal Action against the BAC Infratech Private Ltd.
Immediate registration of this FIR and investigation into the water supply why is not functional. Summoning of BAC Infratech Pvt. Ltd. representatives for an explanation of the non operational water supply. Inspection of the project to assess why the system remains non-functional despite the pipeline connection.
Strict legal action against the company for failing to complete the project as per government guidelines.
Immediate intervention to make the water supply functional and provide relief to the villagers.
The evidence of the incomplete or non-functional water supply system. The people of Balapara Village continue to suffer due to the inaction and negligence of BAC Infratech Pvt. Ltd.
“We request urgent legal intervention and expect a copy of FIR and regular updates on the investigation. We trust in your prompt action to uphold justice and ensure the success of this critical public welfare project” said Sangma.
In response to this filed a FIR, Garodoba OGC initiated an inquiry today on April 8 and the investigation is ongoing informed ASPF President.
