ANTF & Police nabbed four Drug Traffickers in WGH.
Tura, Feb 13, 2025: West Garo Hills Police and ANTF apprehended four drug traffickers on Wednesday night in West Garo Hills. The suspects traffickers attempted to destroy narcotics consignment, but ultimately were apprehended, with a substantial quantity of illegal substances recovered.
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of West Garo Hills and Police initiated the operation regarding narcotics being smuggled from Assam into Garo Hills. Officers swiftly established an interception point at Balachanda, under the jurisdiction of Selsella police Out Post.
An approaching the checkpoint, the suspects panicked upon spotting police and attempted to dispose of psychotropic substances while speeding away. However, officers pursued them, blocked their escape route and apprehended four individuals.
Police team search of their vehicle uncovered 11 vials of psychotropic substances and 6 insulin syringes, believed to be linked to a larger drug network. The arrested suspects have been identified as Toseng R. Sangma (26) from Baghmara, South Garo Hills, Rakkan R. Marak (27) from Bajengdoba, North Garo Hills, Sanchubirth S. Marak (22) from Williamnagar, East Garo Hills and Safik Alam (21) New Bhaitbari, West Garo Hills.
They have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and remain in police custody for continuing investigations.
A senior Police Official commended the ANTF team, stating, “This interception reflects our unwavering commitment to tackling drug trafficking. We will continue taking strict action against those involved in illegal activities”.
Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to aid in combating the region’s drug problem.
