Independence Day celebrated at Selsella Block
Tura, August 16, 2024: Along with the rest of the country, the 78th Independence Day was celebrated at Narang Bari Playground, Selsella C & RD Block, West Garo Hills district. Chairman, Meghalaya State Development Reforms Commission (SDRC) and MLA, Selsella Assembly Constituency, Arbinstone B. Marak, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and took the Rashtriya salute of 8 parade contingents.
Block Development Officer, Selsella C & RD Block Emanuel M. Sangma, Officers and staff of different departments, people of the area were present during the celebration.
During the celebration, the exhibition of stalls was also set-up by various Self Help Groups and entrepreneurs of the area which was also inaugurated by the chief guest. A medical aid stall was also put up at the venue for anyone requiring medical attention.
Meanwhile, in the March Past, St. Joseph Secondary School (Male Contingent), bagged the First Prize, Selsella Higher Secondary School (Female Contingent), 1st Runner up while St. Joseph Secondary School (Female Contingent) 2nd Runner up respectively.
The Chief Guest distributed the Trophy and a Certificate to the winners and Certificates were also given to all participants of March Past and Cultural Programme.
On the occasion, the Chief Guest also felicitated Divizinal Ch. Marak, a vanilla farmer for his hard work, dedication, exemplary service and employment generation activities in the area. A Certificate and Cash award of Rs.10,000/- has been awarded to him.
Other highlights of the day include colorful cultural programme befitting the occasion presented by school students of the block.
