Tura Industrial Fair 4.0 kick-starts in WGH

Tura, February 12, 2025: The Three Day Tura Industrial Fair 4.0 (TIF) kick started today evening at Matchakolgre L P School Playground, New Tura where the Project Director, DRDA Tura Jude R T Sangma graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The Annual Industrial Fair is being organized by the District Commerce and Industries Centre (DCIC), Tura in order to encourage and promote the budding local entrepreneurs of the region and market their products.

Speaking during the inaugural function, the Project Director, West Garo Hills Jude R T Sangma extended his support and encouragement to the participants of the Industrial Fair and said that he is elated to be present amongst the wonderful artisans from the region. He further mentioned that this is a platform that embodies the spirit of innovation, collaboration and growth and expressed his gratitude for propelling Meghalaya’s industrial landscape to a new horizon.

Further, lauding the service and professionalism of the District Commerce and Industries Centre, Tura, he expressed hope that they take the future of the artisans to greater heights. Mentioning the immense contributions of small scale industries in Meghalaya especially in Garo Hills region, he said that these small scale industries also contribute to the vision of the 10 billion economy of the government and they are catalysts for employment, innovation and sustainable development. These industries play a crucial role in harnessing local resources, empowering communities and rejuvenating the rural economy by providing livelihood to many families and stimulating local markets, he added. He further said that the ability to adapt to changing market places, digitalization and necessary skills are few initiatives to boost the growth of these industries and transform the industrial landscape in the region.

Delivering the keynote address, the General Manager, District Commerce and Industries Centre (DCIC), Tura Don Felicient R Marak informed that the department is organizing the District Industrial Exhibition every year and that the exhibition has been renamed as Tura Industrial Fair from the last four years. He also mentioned that the main objective to hold such exhibitions is to benefit the local artisans and participants, and provide a platform to showcase their products, a kind of place where the buyers and sellers meet. He further encouraged the entrepreneurs to exchange their ideas and create networking facilities among them so that they can connect and expand their business activities in future.

Proprietor of NI Store and one of the Successful Entrepreneur of Garo Hills region, Camelia Sengchi N Sangma also spoke about her achievement and expressed her gratitude to the department for their constant assistance in her journey as an entrepreneur.

Altogether sixty plus stalls including ten (10) Government Departments such as Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Sericulture and Weaving, District Horticulture and Agriculture, Dairy Development, etc, participated, including Local Entrepreneurs from the Garo Hills region like Williamnagar, Chokpot, Tikrikilla, etc have participated and displayed their products for sale ranging from locally available different food items, various wooden crafts and artefacts, cane and bamboo items, locally made soaps, candles, jewelry, blacksmith, steel fabrication, etc including products from weaving and handloom like Dakmandas, Bags made from Dakmanda, and other accessories.

Additional Deputy Commissioners, West Garo Hills, Heads of Departments, Officers and staff of DCIC, Tura, local artisans and people of the area were present during the function.

The Tura Industrial Fair 4.0 will be open on 13th and 14th February, 2025 all those interested can visit the Fair at Matchakolgre L P School Playground, New Tura. Another added attraction is the setting up of Kids Play Zone for children and enjoying live music presented by MGMP, Tura.
