Tura, Mar 20, 2025: The Opposition MDCs from GHADC today visited the site of Garo Labour Corps, where the First World War Cenotaph built at Lower Babupara, Tura in Memorial and Tribute to the Garo Legendary Forefathers of the Garos, who lost their lives in France.
The Opposition MDCs has addressed and they were condemned against the such mindless actions of the Govt. of Meghalaya.
“We are strongly condemn the sensless and unlawful demolition of the Historic the First World War, Cenotaph of the A·chik Matgriks, who went to France for work and sacrificed their lives in the First World War. This act of desecration is not just an attack on our Heritage, but an insulted to the memory of our A·chik anchestors. While, we do agreed to steps and actions should be initiated to preserve Monuments of such Historical significance, it could have been done without such callousness and desecration of the original monument. As we demand justice for this cultural atrocity and urged the Chief Minister to initiate immediate action against the Govt. Officials, who have done un-justice to the Garo Society at large by such execution” said Opposition MDCs of GHADC. .
They were also said that the larger interest of the Garo Community of Garo Hills.
