GSU-SZ condemns to relocation of Dialysis Machine from BCH

Baghmara, Jan 7,2025: The Garo Students’ Union, Southern Zone (SZ), Baghmara today visited Baghmara Civil Hospital (BCH) and met the Medical Superintendent (MS) of South Garo Hills, to discuss the letter issued by the Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Meghalaya. The letter outlined the decision to relocate the already established Dialysis Unit, funded by the Hans Foundation (HF), from Baghmara to Tura Civil Hospital.

“We express our deep dissatisfaction and strong opposition to this decision. The Dialysis Unit of Baghmara Civil Hospital is a critical healthcare facility for the people of our region. It was established to serve the local population, whose depend on it for essential Medical Care. But relocating it to another district undermines the healthcare rights of the people of Baghmara and the surrounding areas” said Chuang Houser M.Sangma President of GSU SZ.

He also mentioned that this Dialysis Unit is public property and to serve for the people of South Garo Hills. Every district, including Tura, already been similar facilities. Removing of this Unit from Baghmara would deprived, South Garo Hills of vital healthcare services and create undue hardships for patients, who cannot afford to travel to other districts for treatment.

“We strongly urge the National Health Mission, Meghalaya and all concerned authorities to reconsider this decision. The Garo Students’ Union, will not allow the relocation of this Dialysis Unit, from Baghmara Civil Hospital to other district. We stand firm in our commitment to protecting the rights of the people of Baghmara and ensuring equitable access to healthcare services for all” added Sangma.
